If you are looking for a luxury sedan, but aren’t certain what one suits you, comparing two of the vehicles you are interested in is a great way to narrow down the list of potential sedans. For the purpose of this comparison, we will be taking the specifications of the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S 450 4dr sedan with the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder Turbo engine. It will be compared to the 2018 BMW 740i 4dr sedan with the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder Turbo engine.

2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class |
vs |
2018 BMW 7 Series |
---|---|---|
362 hp | Horsepower | 320 hp |
369 ft-lbs | Torque | 332 ft-lbs |
19/28/22 mpg | Fuel Economy (city/hwy/combined) | 21/29/24 mpg |
23.0 gal | Fuel Capacity | 20.6 gal |
As you can see in the table above, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan has a fair amount of power. While the 2018 BMW 7 Series is by no means weak, the S-Class still has it beaten out at 362 horsepower and 369 ft-lbs of torque, compared to the 7 Series 320 horsepower and 332 ft-lbs of torque. A smaller difference, but still one that can be felt when driving the vehicle.
When it comes to fuel efficiency, it’s a bit harder to tell, especially since both vehicles are so close in comparison. However, the S-Class inches ahead of the 7 Series. Here’s why; while the S-Class gets a smaller number of miles per gallon on the city, highway, and combined, the 7 Series has a smaller fuel tank capacity. This means that, even though the 7-series gets a combined total of 2 miles per gallon more, you will potentially see the S-Class going farther because of the larger fuel tank.
