How Much Cargo Can Be Stored in the 2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris Cargo Van?

For years, the public has only been able to get their hands on one main Mercedes-Benz commercial van, the Sprinter. While the Sprinter is well-loved and well-known, it may not be the right size. In the 2018 model year, Mercedes-Benz rolled out the goldilocks van, the Metris. Sized between a Minivan and the Sprinter, the Metris fills in a part of the market that isn’t really reached by other automakers.

The Metris Worker is a business-oriented version of the Metris, and it has plenty of room for cargo. Having 183 cu.ft. of space allows owners to stow far more than most of the vehicles on the road. The roof is high, but not Sprinter high, so it does well with carrying bulk groceries, oversized equipment, and other hardware, but isn’t as well suited to converting or installing major components or appliances.

This version, without the “worker” branding, is going to deliver the same 183 cu.ft. of internal space, making it essentially the same as the van listed above. The 126-inch wheelbase allows for a handsome 2,425 lb. payload capacity, so you can make as much use of the internal space as possible. This isn’t the best version of the Metris for stowing large amounts of cargo, however.

The additional nine inches of length on the 135-inch wheelbase let drivers make the most of their Mercedes-Benz van. This way, the internal cargo space in the Metris increases to 199 cu.ft. Just shy of a full 200 cu.ft, the cargo capacity should do all you need and more. The height does not change with this wheelbase, and neither does the width. The payload is actually rated as slightly less than the other cargo Metris models.

Metris vs Sprinter

There are two different Mercedes-Benz van models, the Metris and the Sprinter. The Metris resembles something like an extra-large minivan, whereas the Sprinter looks clearly like a commercial vehicle. The Metris Passenger Van looks the most like a Honda Odyssey or Chrysler Pacifica type of minivan design.

Another point of confusion comes from the fact that there are two different versions of the Metris, one that’s called the Metris Worker and one simply called the Metris. How Many People Can Fit in the 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger Van?

When you really need to take a lot of people on the road, and a regular minivan just isn’t big enough, one of the best places to look is the Mercedes-Benz commercial lineup of large vans. Mercedes-Benz makes two different models of large vans, the Metris and the Sprinter. The Sprinter is the larger of the two, and it is sold in passenger, cargo, crew van, and cab chassis formats. If it isn’t already obvious, the passenger van is equipped with multiple rows of seats behind the driver’s seat row and has windows for passengers to see out. All other versions have either just one back row of seats or none at all.

144” Wheelbase
Subdividing the Sprinter even further, the passenger version of the Sprinter can have two different wheelbases. The smallest of them is 144 inches, which allows for a total of 12 passengers. The driver and passenger seats are bucket seats, and two rows behind the front row are 3-seat rows. All the way in the back, a final row seats 4 people. If 12 seats aren’t enough for you, there is the 170-inch wheelbase, described below.

170” Wheelbase

This wheelbase of the Sprinter is the most passenger-friendly version of the large van. Making use of one more row of seats, the 170-inch wheelbase can fit up to 15 passengers. There could technically be room for more seats, but the three middle rows are made up of three seats each, so there is a little bit of room for people to move down to the very back of the vehicle.

If you don’t want to use those two apps, you can also use Bluetooth® audio streaming. The final key standard feature is the analog gauges with high-resolution multifunction display. Displayed in the gauge cluster display, this feature provides menus for vehicle information, settings and driver-assistance features. You can scroll through the menus using the left-hand Touch Controls on the steering wheel.

The ECO Start/Stop system shuts off the engine at stoplights and other idle situations. This feature helps to save fuel and reduce emissions. DYNAMIC SELECT allows you to change between five different modes to match the driving conditions. Driving modes include ECO, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and an “individual” mode. The selective damping system will adjust the individual shock absorbers according to the road surface and the driver’s style of driving.

Blind Spot Assist with Exit Warning Assist will sense when a vehicle enters the vehicle’s blind spots. The system will then send warning light to the side mirror. In addition, if the turn signal is activated when a vehicle is in a blind zone, there will be an audible warning.

Now, on to the passive safety features. Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call will send a call to Mercedes-Benz Emergency Services, with important information, when the air bag is deployed. You can also use the SOS button when you, or someone else, needs emergency services. Emergency Tensioning Devices will remove slack from seat belts in the event of a collision that exceeds a certain threshold.
